Group Leaders
as Artists:- An Approach to Unconscious Processes in Groups
Public Lecture
by Martin Ringer
7.30 pm Monday November 20
Wasley Institute, 563 William St
Mt Lawley, WA 6050
This lecture is hosted by the Australian Institute of
Socio-Analysis www.aisa.org.au in conjunction with the Wasley Institute
The presentation is intended to be suitable for people who are
interested in furthering a psychodynamic understanding of group dynamics.
Through exploring parallels between art and groups, this
lecture develops five aspects of groups:
- Linking of the
key elements in groups
- Containment of
emotional and psychological aspects of group
- Drawing out of
emotional and psychological elements in participants
- Attachment of
group members to the group
- Unconscious
identification between group members and with the group.
Using concepts derived from a psychodynamic understanding of groups,
a comparison of the art/artist/viewer system
with the group leader/group system is intended
to evoke associations and questions in the audience.
This talk was first presented to the Adventure-based Experiential
Learning Conference in Pretoria, South Africa, in September 2000.
