SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I am currently a self-employed management consultant and group work trainer with clients in many different parts of the world. My business (Martin Ringer Consulting, NZ Ltd.) operates from bases in New Zealand, Australia and France.  I teach each year on the MA (Development Training) at St Martin's College, Ambleside and travel extensively to present workshops and training programmes. .

From 1990 to 2000 I was operating from Perth as an independent organisational consultant and provider of organisational and therapeutic group process training. In 2001 I moved to Auckland where I worked as a freelance groupwork trainer and management consultant, and then moved to Rotorua where I spent much or 2002 in the role of Head of Programmes, Social Sciences at Waiariki Institute of Technology before returning to freelance consulting and training. I have lectured in the Schools of Social Work at Curtin University and at UWA and I have travelled extensively, conducting over 50 keynote speeches, conference workshops, training programs and consultancy projects in the last five years throughout many parts of the world, and many more prior to that.

For the five years prior to moving from Whangarei, New Zealand to Perth I was Director of Northland Wilderness Experience a community-based bi-cultural outdoor therapeutic program for 'youth at risk.' This role was preceded by four years as Lecturer at Northland Polytechnic in adventure leadership, science, engineering and mathematics. I also had extensive responsibilities in the national vocational examination system. Before entering the education system I had spent five years as a Telecommunications Engineer with the New Zealand Post Office (now Telecom.) This was primarily a managerial role with some technical and planning aspects.

OTHER POSITIONS HELD

From 1997 to 1999 I held the position of Western Australian representative on the Australian Outdoor Education Council, and I originated and convened the highly successful "First International Adventure Therapy Conference" that was held in Perth during July 1997. Subsequently I have been a member of the International Board responsible for the organization of subsequent International Adventure Therapy conferences: Augsburg Germany April 2000 and the 2003 conference in Vancouver, British Columbia. I am also convenor of the International Working Party on Adventure Therapy which is charged with exploring means of developing effective links between adventure therapists around the world. I have taken leading roles in a number of major workshops and have filled responsible roles in a number peak bodies such as the previous National Parks and Reserves Board for Northland and the Northland Forest Parks Advisory Committee.
