Solutions: Seminars in Development Training

Assessing Organizational Culture and Corporate Health:
A One-day workshop

Presenter: T. Martin Ringer, BE (Hons), M.Ed.

At St. Martin's College, Ambleside, Cumbria, England

10th November  2001

Workshop outline

This workshop demonstrates a means of determining the health of an organization's culture or the health of a part of an organization such as a team or division. Theory and practice are combined with the aim of enabling participants to learn models and processes that can be applied in almost any organizational setting. The workshop will consist of short talks followed by experiential application of the ideas presented in the preceding talk.

The workshop is suitable for executives, managers, team leaders, human resource practitioners, training and development practitioners and consultants working with commercial, public sector or voluntary organisations of any size. The principles learned in the workshop can be applied to the participants' own employing organizations or by consultants to the organizations of their clients.

Theoretical material is drawn primarily from innovative papers published by the presenter: in particular the award-winning article Focus and strategic action in management: Using a systemic model of organizational culture to inform managerial actions. (Published by Work Study in 1996). This paper describes the "layered systems model" which provides six windows on organizational culture, ranging across the board from the strictly rational and pragmatic to the emotional, relational and intuitive.

An enhanced ability to: -
bulletAssess and intervene in the culture of organizations
bulletAssess the health of organizations.
